LIARS in Windcrest

Many of you have heard Windcrest officials being accused of speaking less than the truth.  Well, Monday's council meeting hit a new low.  Councilman Shelton (subject of a Recall) asked the City Secretary when the Recall Petitions were CERTIFIED?  The City Secretary responded, they were Certified on Jan 29th.  Wow, this was a downright LIE!.

Fact:  On Jan 29, 2018 the City Secretary Declined to certify the petition due to not enough Voter signatures.  The City Secretary sent the rejected notice to the Petition Chair via certified mail.  The petition chair received the rejected notice on Thursday, Feb 1st along with an explanation of why the petition was rejected.

The Charter indicates a petition needs 25% of the Number of Voters in the last mayoral election.  The City Secretary disqualified many signatures because some had NOT voted during the last election.   Huge Mistake.

The Petition chair informed the City Attorney and City Secretary the disqualification of signatures was not IAW the Charter.  The City Attorney request the Petition chair return the Petition to City Hall.  The Petition chair returned the Petition to the City Secretary in Feb and the City Secretary then backdated the Petition to reflect it was Certified on Jan 29.  Talk about covering your tracks..Wow.

Now to quell the rumors of this error, Shelton asked the question during council so it would be recorded and the response was Jan 29th.

Now Shelton was informed on Jan 29 the petition was rejected so he's safe.  Being it was later found to be rejected in error has been a secret til now.

The three recalls all claimed Not Available for the Council meeting for them to present their case, now the petition has completely disappeared and has NOT been presented to Council in any form.

This is a travesty, the voters spoke via the petition and those voters have been totally ignored by this administration.  The City Secretary, City Manager need to be relieved.

Comments

  1. Any suggestions what we, as citizens, can do to move this along? Obstructionism is costing the city financially and causing citywide conflict. At a time we could be building a better Windcrest, we're spinning our wheels. The petitions are valid. Let the voters decide. Do we want to continue allowing individuals to flaunt the rule of law and go against voters' legal petitions? Of course not, that is a slippery slope indeed. Any realistic suggestions to move forward? Such a sad state of affairs due to the irresponsible actions of a few.

  2. Attend city council meetings and voice your concerns. The CM and CS fouled up but are not being held accountable. Attend city council meetings and voice your concerns, and email the council individually. The city attorney assisted in this mess too. Realistic suggestions to move forward? They flaunted the rule of law and effectively tabled the petition barring a judges order.
